MediaFire

http://www.mediafire.com/?y5jzieyjgfq

I have been testing out the website MediaFire which claims to be "free file storing made easy".

To test it out I created a free account and uploaded a picture of a cute car that I had saved on my computer, and surprisingly it uploaded in seconds! Although there are many similar websites to this, such as Flickr, these other sites do not allow such a broad range of files to be uploaded. Due to the flexibility of this website, it could be used in a classroom environment.

For example, most photographs are kept on computers as files these days; yet alot of the children I know have had to bring in a photograph for show and tell or a classroom activity at some stage in their schooling. This website would make this so much easier, as students can simply upload their pictures to this site on a shared classroom account. This would save the trouble or parents having to print pictures, pictures getting lost and crumpled in bags or being forgotten.

Another example. Just say a student is sick and misses a video of the first space landing that the teacher plays in class that day for the Space unit the class is studying. In previous times, that student would simply miss out as library resources can not be taken home. Due to development of technology, the teacher could find a TeacherTube or YouTube video of the space landing, and save the file to MediaFire for the student to watch at home (or a library, Internet cafe' etc. where student does not have Internet access).

There are many other situations where this website would be a valuable learning tool, which shows that teachers of tomorrow really need to expand their e-learning to ensure that children are kept up-to-date and not missing out on these wonderful learning opportunities that are out there.

  1. Hi Carissa, I really like your idea where the students can save their sharing time photos to media fire. I also thought of that same idea where if a student is away sick then the work could be uploaded. Certainly would save a lot of photocopying time! Glad someone else is on the same wavelength as me!
